2008 Olympic year! Beijing Olympics a big success?

Well, we will have something great in august when the Beijing Olympic Games finally starts.
But was I’m not so sure at this moment is if the games will be a success or not. Every 4 years we have Olympic games better than the previous but Beijing is still being criticized in many ways. The news about Steven Spielberg was just one of the latest news against a “big success” for the forthcoming Games.
As stated by Olympic Blog RobLadin there was an interesting response by China over Steven Spielberg’s action:

The Chinese media and Internet users have expressed their bafflement and disappointment over Hollywood director Steven Spielberg’s recent withdrawal from the Beijing Olympics as its artistic director, but still admire the Oscar-winner’s artistic achievements.

What seems to be out of question is the world at large are putting politics in this event in a way to discredit the big efforts China is doing to become a democratic country.
China has been making persistent efforts to help resolve the Darfur crisis, Chinese ambassador to Sudan Li Chengwen said. But it is really true? Many think China is the reason for the problems.
Airpollution is another problem.
Many top-class athletes from around the world are likely to be making their final tune-ups from Hokkaido to Kyushu this summer, despite having to pay more to train in Japan than they would in China.
Training here might cost a little more, but Japan has a proven record as a country where final preparations can be made for a major event because it has held such events as the world athletics championships,” an official from one such country said.
Olympic Spirit… are we to see the right olympic spirit a Beijing?
What do you think about? Will Beijing 2008 be a great success after all?
